How to dispose of garbage

Make sure your garbage is separated correctly before bringing it to the specified garbage station on a designated garbage collection day.

Basic rules 

  • Separate your garbage correctly and dispose. See this page about how to separate garbage.
  • When disposing of burnable and non-burnable garbage or plastic containers & packaging, use only the bags specified by Fukui City. You can buy the bags at supermarkets or convenience stores.
  • Bring garbage to the specified garbage station before 7:00 a.m. on a designated garbage collection day.
  • Put no more than 5 kg of garbage into one bag.
  • Always write the name of your residents' association or condominium on the bags.
  • You can obtain a chart detailing proper garbage separation at either 市民サービス推進室前情報コーナー (SHIMIN SERVICE-SUISHIN-SHITSU MAE JOHO CORNER) or 清掃清美課 (SEISO SEIBI-KA). (available in Japanese, Chinese, English and Portuguese)

Burnable garbage

  • Dispose kitchen garbage, clothes and paper trash as burnable garbage.
  • Collected twice a week. Every Tuesday and Friday for SHIMIZU・KOSHINO district. Check the collection day in FUKUI・MIYAMA district with a leader of your resident association or an apartment manager.If you have any questions, contact 清掃清美課 (SEISO SEIBI-KA) .

Non-burnable garbage

    • Dispose of metals, glass, ceramics and compact home appliances as non-burnable garbage.
    • Collected twice a month. Non-burnable garbage is collected every second and fourth Thursday in the SHIMIZU and KOSHINO districts. For collection days in other locations, ask the leader of your resident association or apartment manager. If you have any questions, contact 清掃清美課 (SEISO SEIBI-KA).

○You can throw small appliances in the recycling box or take them to the counter at City Hall. (no charge)

Plastic containers and packaging

  • Dispose of plastic bags, labels, cups, trays, bottles, lids and nets marked with "プラ" as "Plastic Containers and Packaging.".
  • Collected once a week. Burnable garbage is collected every Monday in the SHIMIZU and KOSHINO districts. For collection days in other locations, ask the leader of your resident association or apartment manager. If you have any questions, contact 清掃清美課 (SEISO SEIBI-KA).

Recyclable garbage

    • Dispose of empty cans, empty bottles, dry cell batteries, fluorescent bulbs, plastic bottles and corrugated cardboard boxes/paper containers as recyclable garbage.
    • Collection days differ with each district. For this information, contact a leader of your resident association or an apartment manager.
    • There are garbage stations where you cannot dispose of recyclable garbage. Check with a leader of your resident association or an apartment manager and dispose of it at a designated garbage station.

Large-sized garbage

    • Garbage which does not fit in the specified bags or garbage over 5kg is considered large-sized garbage.
    • A fee is charged for the disposal of large-sized garbage.
    • Garbage collection facilities vary according to the type of garbage; burnable or non-burnable. For details, contact 清掃清美課 (SEISO SEIBI-KA).
