The correct way to divide and throw away your trash

The days of just throwing away trash are gone. It''''s time to think about it!

* RECYCLABLES WILL NOT BE PICKED UP ON NATIONAL HOLIDAYS

Classification Garbage Collection Days Types of Garbage and Points of Disposal
General garbage

Burnable Garbage

(use specified bags)

Twice a week

Kitchen garbage (organic garbage, leftovers, shells, cooking oil) Clothes and fabric (underwear, towels, stuffed toys)
Paper trash (tissue, photos, paper diapers)/ Wood and leather
* Drain off the water in case of organic garbage.
* Get rid of excrements first in case of paper diapers.
* Make sure that the points of bamboo skewers, etc. won''''t cause danger to others.
Branches left after pruning garden trees should be about 30 cent meter long and 3 cent meter thick. Dispose of them in specified bags.
 

Non-burnable Garbage

(use specified bags)

Every month
2nd and 4th

Metal ware (pots, kettles, pans)/Stationery and commodities (sponges, ballpoint pens, pails, vinyl strings)/Glass (glasses, cosmetics containers, fluorescent lamps)/ Ceramics (tea cups, flowerpots, vases)/Small size electrical goods (rice cookers, tape-recorders)/Spray cans and gas cylinders
* Wrap broken glass in thick paper and write "Dangerous substance" on it.
* The weight of electrical goods must be less than 5 kg.
* Open the holes in spray cans and gas cylinders to make sure nothing is left inside. Put them separately in transparent or semi-transparent bags.

Plastic goods

(use specified bags)

Every month

1st, 3rd and 5th

Plastic bags and food wrap /Cups and trays/Bottles/Caps and nets
* Get rid of the leftovers inside
* Wash trays and bottles.
* Take off all labels, stickers, etc.
* All these items have "plastic" mark on them.
* The goods impossible to get rid of the contents must be disposed as non-burnable garbage.

* Batteries -dispose of them on a bottle day in a transparent or semi-transparent small bag.
* Return button-shaped dry cell batteries to a store.

Bottles

(use for beverage, food and seasoning)

  * Bottles -take off caps, wash thoroughly, put into specified boxes according to the color: colorless or transparent, blue/green, brown, black.
* Return beer and sake bottles to stores.
* Containers used for cosmetics or medicine, glass-made tableware, glasses, ashtrays, sheet glass are not recyclable garbage (throw them on non-burnable garbage days).
Cans
(use specified, transparent or semi-transparent bags)

Aluminum and steel cans, canned food empty cans, baby food cans, dried laver cans

* Wash thoroughly the steel cans used for juice, beer, sweets and canned food.

Corrugated cardboard boxes and other paper containers Once a month

Corrugated cardboard boxes, confectionary boxes, tissue boxes, etc.
* Fold empty boxes and tie them together with a paper string.
* All paper containers have "paper" mark on them.
Pet bottles

Soft drinks, Japanese sake and soy sauce bottles.
* Recyclable pet bottles always have "PET 1" mark.
* Take off a cap and a ring.
* Take off a label.
* Wash bottles inside.
Newspapers, magazines, leaflets, milk paper containers   * PTA and other organizations collect them on a regular basis. Check your district for further information.
* Tie them up separately with a paper string.
Large-sized garbage Burnable large-sized garbage Garbage stations do not pick up this kind of garbage.
Bring it to garbage disposal facilities. Door-to-door garbage collection is available.
* Woodenware (tables, chairs, cupboards, beds, chest of drawers, etc.)
* Bed and bedding (wooden beds, carpets, rugs, blankets, etc.)
Non-burnable large-sized garbage * Big size electrical goods, sport goods, children toys
* Big size plastic goods (storage cases, document boxes, etc.)
* Others (sofas, bicycles, pipe beds, kerosene heaters, etc.)
